The objective of the School Improvement Project was to ensure that the learning environments were enhanced with libraries, lunchrooms and food services that accommodate the new welcoming school student body; improved ADA accessibility; classroom air-conditioning: upgraded interiors; and upgraded electrical systems. GSG’s objective was to ensure that the construction was in compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
GSG was retained to conduct a limited environmental survey, Project Design and Abatement Oversight at over 45 Public Schools. The survey included sampling and analysis for the presence of asbestos-containing material (ACM), lead-based paint (LBP), and visual inspections for the presence of hazardous waste that may be present and potentially disturbed during planned renovation activities. After the identification of the regulated materials , GSG provided design plans that included drawings and specifications. The surveys, design, and abatement oversight were conducted by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) licensed inspectors with extensive experience in similar renovation projects.
GSG was able to complete the required survey, design, and oversight for over 45 schools in 10 weeks. GSG’s years of experience working with CPS, CHA, and PBCC on various challenging projects provided confidence to our client in our ability to complete this task in given timeframe. CPS was able to open all 45 schools on time as scheduled after the completion of a busy summer construction season.
