Harrison/Dever & 68th Street/Dunne Cribs
The City of Chicago Department of Water Management planned renovation of two water intake crib complexes located in Lake Michigan. The Harrison/Dever crib complex provided raw water to the Jardine Water Purification Plant, and the 68th Street complex provided raw water to the South Water Purification Plant.
GSG conducted a limited hazardous building materials survey at both crib locations. GSG performed the field survey in accordance with the National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPS) requirements and guidelines as well as standard industry practices. The survey included testing for asbestos-containing material (ACM) and lead-based paint (LBP) as well as visual inspections for the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), universal waste, and mold that may have been present and potentially disturbed during planned renovation activities. Survey was conducted by two Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) licensed inspectors for asbestos and lead. PCB, mold, and universal waste surveys were perforemd by an environmental specialist in conducting such surveys. The asbestos survey identified the presence of non-friable ACM as well as the presence of LBP.
